In Construction
Creating a family-friendly precinct that unites the community around football.
The Cronulla Sharks were formed in 1968 when the Sutherland Shire was in its infancy. The club has grown with the area, which continues to attract young families looking for open space and a relaxed beachside lifestyle.
When Cronulla Leagues Club contracted DACCA to undertake the redesign for the major redevelopment of the club’s site, they were looking to create an entertainment precinct that would be purpose-built for the entire community. They also wanted to pay homage to the culture and proud history of the Sharks rugby league team.
Our design process re-visited the beginning of the Football and Leagues Club union in 1968, when the Sharks began playing at this stadium.
Putting a fresh spin on the mid-century design that was prolific at the time, we created a relaxed but luxurious resort-style experience with pops of block colour and Palm Springs-inspired finishes.
A constant theme throughout was to hero location, making the most of the incredible bayside position and giving the community a welcoming space to gather and enjoy everything they love about Shire living.
