When Balgowlah RSL set out to create Etti’s, the vision was to attract a more social audience while responding to the club’s evolving demographic. Dacca’s design approach drew inspiration from the surrounding landscape of Balgowlah, including the textures of fisherman’s huts, rugged headlands and nearby national park environments, creating a destination that encourages exploration and escape.
The alfresco space has emerged as the defining feature of the venue. Designed to deliver year-round comfort, it features a retractable glass roof, pivoting windows and full air-conditioning, allowing patrons to enjoy an outdoor atmosphere in any season while maintaining a strong connection to the surrounding environment.
Surrounded by lush greenery and anchored by a striking gum tree, the space offers an immersive and welcoming experience. A large-format viewing screen creates the ultimate destination for live sports, while an integrated DJ booth enables the area to effortlessly transition between sporting events, live entertainment and private functions .
Concept & Design
Careful acoustic treatment ensures activity within the space has minimal impact on neighbouring areas, allowing multiple experiences to operate simultaneously throughout the venue.
A high bar and flexible seating arrangements provide comfort and versatility for a wide range of users, creating a vibrant social destination that balances excitement with relaxation.
Despite the project’s relatively compact footprint of approximately 650m², the alfresco area demonstrates how thoughtful planning and design can deliver a premium entertainment experience while strengthening the club’s role as a contemporary community hub.
